BLØKK Multibook success story

A notebook you can reuse. That sounds like a dream, right? After all, "scribbling" works just a little better than taking digital notes, but of course you also want to consider the environment. Brothers Kevin and Damian from BLØKK Stonepaper therefore developed the (A5) Multibook: a handy and clear notebook made of sustainable stone paper, in which you can erase your notes when you no longer need them. Besides notes, you can also put in contact information, login details and appointments. Together with Kevin and Damian, we made this dream come true. How. Damian talks about their brand new product and our collaboration.

What is rock paper?

Reusing is not the only thing that makes the Multibook eco-friendly. The paper that makes up this notebook is also more sustainable. Stone paper, or "stone paper," is a type of paper produced with calcium carbonate. This material is found in limestone and marble, among others. Because it requires less tree felling than traditional paper -which is made from wood pulp-, stone paper production is a lot kinder to the environment.

Other pleasant properties of stone paper are its water and tear resistance and smooth writing surface. So perfect for a notebook, thought Damian and Kevin. If the paper it thick enough, you can erase your notes you wrote with the included pen on stone paper with the accompanying spray.

Erasing notes, how does it work?

When you order the Multibook, in addition to the stylish, minimalist notebook, you will also receive a special pen, spray and cloth. These allow you to erase the ink quickly and easily. Time after time. The booklet is water- and tear-resistant. Therefore, the Multibook lasts a heart long time. Another reason why it is such a durable booklet.

Komori Lithrone G40 LED-UV press

The smooth writing surface makes writing comfortable, but in terms of printing, it can create challenges. Because of this smoothness, stone paper is very blemish-prone. By working with the Komori LED-UV press, we avoid smudging the ink because it dries much faster.

Taken through the process

The beginning of the process consisted mainly of exploring the possibilities. Several choices had to be made. Damian recounts:

"Kevin and I started this project with no entrepreneurial experience, but printing was also new to us. It was therefore very nice that John from NPN Drukkers advised us well about the possibilities. He recommended or advised against certain things and that helped enormously in making choices. Not only in the field of printing, but also graphically, he was a great help. What line spacing works well, is the layout appropriate? We were really included from beginning to end. We learned an awful lot from that."

Exactly what they had in mind

Kevin and Damian are very happy with the end result. "There were some challenges at times, but thanks to the thinking along and advice from NPN Drukkers , the Multibook ended up being exactly what we wanted." The brothers of BLØKK chose a minimalist design so that the book does not draw all the attention when it is on your desk. The logo is therefore subtly incorporated on the cover. "You can see it and it has a nice shiny effect when you move it around, but the whole thing still has a soothing look to it."
