MOVE - Scheepens Advertising

In honor of their fiftieth anniversary, advertising agency Scheepens had the desire to create a book. Not a standard book, that doesn't suit them. No, this book had to be an inspiring reference work of the past fifty years, in which Scheepens proudly shows what moves them. If you come to us with the desire to make "not a standard book," we immediately jump up with enthusiasm. This was also the case when Manon van Scheepens knocked on our door: the idea for MOVE was born. We spoke with Manon about the idea, the process and the end result.

MOVE was not to be a standard book, but what was? Manon says: "The idea was to make a book in which we show what moves us and what then moves this reader . Because our profession is always in motion. And that has not been different in the past 50 years. With MOVE we also wanted to show this. Not only the cover, but the whole book is dominated by movement."

Motion

That movement already starts on the cover, where MOVE is written in magnetic letters. The letters can be moved across the cover, allowing everyone to create their own version of the cover. If you pay close attention as you open the book, you'll see that in the upper left corner of each page is a piece of the Scheepens logo. If you flip through it quickly, the animation that can also be seen on Scheepens' website is created there. You will also find metallic 3D drawings throughout the book that sometimes seem to come at you. The Play button on each page moves the reader to the website behind the book, where you can see more about the projects.

Connect. Create. Campaign

The words that sum up exactly what Scheepens does can be found on the side of the book, via the so-called color-on-cut method: connect, create, campaign. This gives the book a special look from all angles. "We are proud that this worked out so well. It was a difficult process and we had to make quite a few tests to get to the final result. In the end it worked out completely," says Manon.

The right partner

The search for a printing company was not easy, according to Manon. "We had already come up with the idea of the magnetic front, but many printers had no experience with this and didn't dare to do it. We ourselves have some experience with printing in the past, but our requirements with this project were so specific that we were really looking for a partner in this process. Fortunately, we found that partner in NPN Drukkers. Even during the first meeting with Perry, he actively thought along with us and came up with ideas. I knew right away that we had come to the right place. It was exactly what we were looking for; someone who would take us by the hand through the entire process."

Not without challenges

If you want something "different than different," challenges come with it. We don't shy away from challenges easily. Even during the production of MOVE we encountered several. The animation effect on the pages and the color on the page were calculated and tested very precisely and the magnets on the cover also required some thinking. They were not to be too heavy, of course, but not too light either. In the end, ferrous foil was the solution. The lithography of MOVE was also challenging. A lot of black was used in the book and then if you don't use the right settings, you get a hundred different shades of black.

A pleasant cooperation

Manon: "I am impressed with the way we worked with NPN Drukkers. We were closely involved in the process and visited the print shop several times. This way we could see how they work. Printing really is a craft and I found the whole process super inspiring to see. Also in terms of planning it was a pleasant cooperation. Sandra worked hard to keep everything as tight as possible. And when Perry said he was going to work on something, I could cross it off my list. I knew immediately that everything would turn out well. "
